Who is Teddy Atkins?
Small business owner, high school history teacher, IFBB professional bodybuilder, certified personal trainer and motivational speaker — with a Ph.D. in Psychology.
From meal plans to the pro stage
Dr. Theodore Atkins Jr. began his journey in the health and fitness industry in his hometown of Fort Lauderdale, Florida — by selling meal plans door to door in the 6th grade.
His love for health and fitness started with his father, who was also a bodybuilder, taking him to workouts and teaching him the effects of nutrition on the body. In 1995, Theodore took that knowledge and entered three Iron Man competitions at the Boys and Girls Club — and won them all, with the help of IFBB Pro bodybuilder Ann Mary-Bortz and Oscar Cook, an NFL running back with the Detroit Lions.
In high school Theodore played football, wrestled, ran track and boxed. Those experiences led to his first workout plan, which he shared with his high school football team.
At Florida A&M University (FAMU) and Florida State University (FSU), he teamed up with Mr. Bob Carroll, Director of the FAMU Fitness Center, to enter his first-ever bodybuilding show in 1998 — the Mr. FAMU Bodybuilding Show. He entered that show and the next three Mr. FAMU shows, winning them all and training all the competitors, which earned him a place in the athletic hall of fame at the FAMU Fitness Center. He then earned his standard and advanced IFPA certifications from Gei Nam Lim, Assistant Director of the FSU and FAMU Fitness Centers.
Dr. Atkins’ ultimate goal is to make the world a happier, healthier place to live, learn and grow.
